Assignment 1 Proposal

For this assignment, I chose the Grimm Brothers short story Rapunzel. In short, an evil witch takes the only child of a couple away (after the father steals lettuce from the witch's garden for his dying wife) to raise her on her own in a tower. The King's son discovers a beautiful voice coming from the tower, to discover the young girl living in it. He asks her to marry him, and she accepts. One day the witch is up in the tower and hears the prince calling for Rapunzel, cuts off her long golden hair, and brings the prince inside. She banishes Rapunzel to a desert, and the prince jumps from the tower, poking out his eyes by falling into thorns. The blind prince wanders for years, and finally finds Rapunzel in the desert, and discovers she had twins, a boy and a girl, that belong to him.
For my 5 postcards, I'm going emphasize on the tower, the witch, Rapunzel's hair, the garden, and the thorns that the prince falls into. I want to use floral, striped, and geometric patterns cut into elaborate shapes to make the scenery for this tale. I'm going to make it more bright and cheerful, even with the evil witch using bright blues and purples.
